This course is designed to expose students to the issues, techniques and skills associated with leadership in organisations and understand how effective leadership at all levels can contribute to organizational success and effectiveness. We will explore several facets of leadership and evaluate the significant processes involved in leading. At the end of the course, students should understand theories and principles relating to effective leadership and the most effective way of applying them in an organizational environment. The course examines topics such as: leadership and management; trait, behavioural and contingency theories of leadership; individual differences in leadership; leadership development; contemporary forms of leadership; and issues of gender and culture.
